Natural gas supply

Geoplin provides its customers a reliable, long-term and sufficient natural gas supply on the basis of, mainly, long-term purchase contracts with natural gas producers or suppliers and also the use of storage facilities.

Russian natural gas covers more than half of Geoplin customers’ natural gas needs, with Algeria ensuring a further third of the required quantities; natural gas from the European Union provides for the rest.

Natural gas is transported to Slovenia through high-pressure natural gas pipelines. From Russia these pipelines run across Ukraine, Slovakia and Austria, while from Algeria they run across Tunisia, underneath the Mediterranean Sea and across Italy.

Geoplin balances the demand for natural gas and its supply by using underground storage facilities. Such facilities also ensure greater supply reliability in the event of restrictions to the supply of natural gas stemming from abroad or special weather conditions.
