Exploitation of waste heat generated in production processes

We identified a potential for exploitation of waste heat generated in the production process in many of our industry customers the core business of which is production of finished or semi-manufactured products.

The implementation of the solution generates savings that reduce our customers’ operating costs compared to their original systems. We use our expert knowledge and work with our customers to develop a proposition of the technological solution and implement it.

Our customers do not bear costs related to the development and implementation of the solution nor the maintenance costs within the contract period. All these costs are already included in Geoplin’s service.

Highly energy-efficient combined heat and power generation plants

Industrial companies using natural gas for heat generation for process, steam and hot water production may substantially improve their energy system’s overall efficiency by installing a cogeneration plant (CHP). 

Installation of a CHP plant not only reduces energy costs but it also represents a redundancy to existing heat source or steam production, or represents a local high efficiency production power generation plant.

Cooling systems for technological cooling

IAK, Industrija apna Kresnice (lime production company)

Together with both our customer specialising in lime production, and a technology partner, we developed a solution for expanding combustion zone in a furnace, which is an elementary part of the technological plant for lime production. The solution increased production capacity and at the same time reduced specific energy use per unit of product. Manufacturing of a unit of product is thus quicker, more cost-effective and its negative impact on the environment is lower.

Štore Steel

Working closely with our customer from steel industry – Štore Steel, and an outsourced technology partner, we developed a solution for the technological process of baking of steel bars. Due to modern technology, the customer was able to reduce natural gas consumption and improve the welfare of employees at their workplaces. The technological solution enables the recuperation of exhaust gas from furnaces and better thermal insulation. The new process control system made the production process quicker, more cost-effective and more employee and environmentally friendly. Lower energy consumption leads to lower CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions.

IAK, Industrija apna Kresnice (lime production company)

The installation of a special custom made heat exchanger for recapturing exhaust gas waste heat and putting it to use in the technological process allowed our customer IAK to improve production process efficiency by more than 20% and make energy savings. The direct effects of this solution are lower energy costs and reduced impact of weather conditions on production quality. Nominal thermal power of the installed heat exchanger is 4.5 MW.

SIJ Ravne Systems

The solution is compliant with ISO EN 12.464-1 standard and despite the demanding ambiental conditions allows the customer SIJ Ravne Systems to reduce electricity consumption and lower CO2 emissions by 60% compared to original lighting system.

Geoplin successfully launched another energy-efficient lighting project in industry complex in the beginning of 2019.

SIJ Metal Ravne

The SIJ Metal Ravne project consisted of planning, implementation and financing of the reconstruction of the existing industrial lighting in the production hall.

The project was implemented through energy service contracting, meaning that Geoplin as the contractual partner developed implemented and financed the investment and guaranteed both energy savings and the agreed illumination of the workplaces to the customer. During the 60-month contractual period, Geoplin’s solution will save the customer 825 MWh of electrical energy yearly and reduce their carbon footprint by 454 tons of CO2 a year.

Zdravilišče Radenci (health resort) and Mercator (retail store)

Geoplin invested in the installation of CHP plants in 12 Mercator retail stores in Slovenia in 2014. The power of CHP plants varies according to the needs of individual stores. Their electricity production thus ranges from 22 to 50 kW.

A year later, Geoplin installed a 889 kW CHP unit in Radenci Health Resort in Slovenia. The customer’s line of business requires the CHP unit to run throughout the year.
